Restoration / Engines / Components

I take on select projects with shops, private owners, and collections. Typical involvement includes assessment and documentation, disassembly and analysis, and planning for the reassembly process. Recent examples include a Maserati Birdcage transaxle and race prep, a Talbot Lago engine, and several projects on a Bugatti Type 30 .

Consulting

I offer mechanical diagnosis, documentation, and research for owners, shops, and collectors who need informed interpretation—not just wrench time.

I can also provide independent, detail‑driven assessments for potential buyers. This includes mechanical condition review, analysis of photos and documents, research into known issues, and cost‑of‑ownership considerations.

For online auctions, I offer objective analysis of listings using only the materials provided: mechanical and historical critique, identification of red flags or missing information, context on originality and correctness, and a clear recommendation—bid, pass, or proceed with caution.

Submit an Idea for an Article

If you have a question, a mystery part, a story fragment, or a technical rabbit hole worth exploring, you can pitch it. I’m especially interested in mechanical archaeology, creative problem‑solving, historical oddities, and behind‑the‑scenes stories. Collaborative pieces are welcome if they fit One Day in the Shop.
