Welcome to One Day in the Shop

A new space for stories about the machinery that redefined automotive history

After nearly ten years online, Traveling With Tools is undergoing a major overhaul to get ready for the next decade and beyond.

The concept for One Day in the Shop began two years ago as a topic of conversation, looking back at some choice memories from my time at the premier restoration shop, Phil Reilly & Company. It has since expanded into this new project, a rare place online with regular feature articles that look deep into the guts of exotic restoration projects.

From pre-war Alfa Romeos and Bugattis to Maseratis and Ferraris from the classic era post-1948, there will be a little bit of everything for the automotive enthusiast. Or gearhead. Or car nerd.

The new format has three lanes:

One Day in the Shop

onedayintheshop.com

Features automotive content and will have regular articles about some of the more interesting projects that I’ve been a part of over the years.

Traveling With Tools

travelingwithtools.com

The home for fly fishing, travel adventures and motorhome life. Plus tidbits from other areas of leisure pursuits.

Get in touch! A portfolio of past projects. Plus personal essays, motorsports memories and reflections.

The goal of the redesign is to make lanes of content that are more specific to a reader’s interests. You may be interested in Bugatti engines, but not fly fishing. Or vice versa. So now each visitor can get their fix without interruption from unrelated topics.

I also hope to welcome a community of enthusiasts and intend to place more focus on the comments and discussion features that have been under-utilized in the past.

If this sounds interesting, you can sign up to receive notifications when new content comes online, and you can pick your lane – One Day in the Shop for the automotive lane or Traveling With Tools for fly fishing and everything else. (Why not both?)

Enter your email and click “Subscribe” below, then choose your lane.

Thanks for stopping by!

Technical Minutiae for Geeks

The new site is designed to display best on desktop/laptop computers, as the photography is a large component and most images are in landscape format. It will work on mobile devices, though it is not optimized for that platform. Tablets should be fine.

The three sites share the same database at travelingwithtools.com, which you’ll still see in the address bar.

Comments, questions and bug reports are welcome. Email greg@travelingwithtools.com or use the contact form.
