Well, the ten days that I was based out of Bakers Hole campground was kind of a letdown, as far as the fishing goes. I think in total I netted five adult fish, with the last day accounting for two of them. My Fall visit in previous years have always produced at least one fish over 20″, but this year, not so much.
General consensus seems to be that the fish just haven’t headed up out of the lake in any real numbers yet. Last Fall, I was here from October 8 to the 21st, and there was similar talk of low numbers, but it was far better than 2021. I’ve decided to bum around for a few more weeks and hope that next week’s forecast bad weather will bump up the numbers of lake run fish.
Until then, the weather is beautiful and there are lots of other good Montana waters to fish around here. I’m shacked up at Raynolds Pass for the next several days, and maybe I’ll go up to fish Cliff and Wade lakes.
