I stopped in New Orleans at Easter in 2016, on my way to Colorado from Florida. There are many parts of the city that are sad and decrepit, parts that were so before Katrina and didn’t change afterward. But there is much to cherish about the city and the zest for life that seems to be at its center.

The graffiti image above was painted on the wall of what looked like an upscale urban loft apartment building. And who could complain? Who would call the police and try to get it removed? What were the motives of the painter? How much risk did he or she take, hanging from a rope while making such a nice font?
I took many photos of signs while I traveled the country, but this is one of my favorites.
